Mission Statement

PROTECT OUR CHILDREN
PROTECT OUR HOMES
FROM ENVIRONMENTAL RISK

Goals

To inform all of Presque Isle County, the State of Michigan and beyond of environmental risk.  The concern is not only for our children but for all children and the generations yet to come.

The major goals we seek are:

To alert the public of the effects of coal-burning power plants in northeast Michigan and beyond.

To address public health concerns as related to expected environmental impacts.

To protect the environment through education, research and, if necessary, litigation.

To inform people of alternatives to coal-burning power plants for energy.  To educate the community on the production of energy and employment of people in a clean, sustainable, realistic way without long-term toxins.

To be proactive in education and action on energy conservation.

To educate, inform and advocate environmental concerns via governmental structure and regulators in the State and beyond through grassroots initiatives.

To protect the environmental health and well-being of our State and the Great Lakes.

To educate consumers of the financial risks to their own households regarding coal-burning power plants, in an economic climate rapidly turning away from coal.

To research economic concerns regarding the presence of a coal-burning power plant and its effect upon local businesses, farming, tourism, fishing, hunting and real estate values.

Strategies and Objectives

To develop information and distribute materials to the public, local, state and federal leaders on coal-burning power plants and the effects on the community and state.

To clarify that the words "Clean Energy" as a term, can be used ambiguously.

Collect and disseminate information on why other states, cities and towns, made decisions against coal-burning power plants.

To develop a dialogue with the public and political leadership that includes questions about short and long-term results in the production of energy.

To investigate or intervene in litigation that has impact upon the environment.

To refrain from the support of, or contribution to, political partisan candidates or initiatives.
